Us Alone lyrics

Post by Brent »

Here's what I have worked out so far for the lyrics, but I can't make out some spots. Can anyone help?

--
Motel
--

I agree
we should leave
here in an hour
or better right now
or we'll never
????

Touch my skin
and let us begin
to notice each other
and not some monitor
Let's not tell anyone
about what's going on

Say you would drive until
we hit the mountians
or maybe just hills
we'll lose signal
or just have a little

I know a motel
along the coast ???
it's pretty awful
but they'll leave us alone

I can't go on
pretending this song
is about young lovers
born to run
when it's so clearly
about you and me

And I agree we'll get no sleep
until we strap her into that seat
and stop this terrible sound
by driving her around

Until we pass that motel
along the coast ???
It's pretty awful
but one time we just might
stop there and sleep through the night

--
Just Give Me A Name
--

Don't want to know
I don't want to know
I don't want to know how it went
And if there was plans
well in advance
or happened by pure accident
Or fell to the floor
if you asked for more
it makes no difference to me
If music was playing
what the singer was saying
whether you set yourself free

There's one thing I need
for you to tell me
if theres a chance for us to remain
so don't say a word
about where you've been gone
I just need you to give me a name
just give me a name

I don't need to know
I don't need to know
I don't need to know how it went
Where it took place
Night or day
or even what it might have meant
If you played or you laid
or just fell to the bed
weather you laughed or if you cried
if your in love
or just out of
I won't ask you to decide

There's one thing I need
for you to tell me
if there's a chance for us to remain
so don't say a word
about where you've been gone
I just need you to give me a name
Just give me a name
I just need a name

As day turns to night
I think I'd like
to ask for you some other words
the name of his street
where that he works
what time he gets home from work

--
Blurry Nights
--

Hey
Out of my blurry nights
ours was the one I liked
most of all
It's OK
that we had nothing to say
and that didn't get in the way
if I recall

By the way
As soon as you left my place
I walked the streets for a trace of you in the sprawl
Then today we found ourselves
exchanging thoughts on the size of the world in some hole in the wall

I don't know how to do this
but will you leave with me right now?
Nothing good can ever come from this in the long run
but let's not dismiss all the fun we could have tonight
we forget how we might
feel in the morning light
How we'll feel in the morning light

You
say you like being alone while looking down at your phone like it's some marquee
and you stay home most half the time thinking of ways to write(??)
while dreaming of dreams

I don't know how to do this
but will you leave with me right now?
Nothing good can ever come from this in the long run
but let's not dismiss all the fun we could have tonight
we forget how we might
feel in the morning light
How we'll feel in the morning light

--
Old Dreams
--

I don't need my old dreams
now my dreams are your dreams
All I want is you
to be happy

I don't want the bright lights
I don't need more invites
All I want is you
to be happy

I don't need more reviews
Not unless they're from you
All I want is you
to be happy

What did I waste all my time
worrying about
before this moment in my life
Could use some of that time
tonight, tonight

I don't need my old dreams
now my dreams are your dreams
All I want is you
to be happy

--
Almost Everything
--

I know just where to begin
singing my songs into the wind
Letting them just blow away
and never hearing them again
friends of mine were in a band
Halifax was on the stands
I thought I had a chance
to be like them

So I recorded and I sang
about the things that I knew of back then
Some kids who heard and saw me in them
At a time in their lives
when music was everything
it was everything

Loading up my red Tercell
with my guitar and things to sell
getting to the Embassy hotel
just in time to play
The year was 1994
they were cross legged on the floor
listening to my bedroom ???
oh those were the days

I recorded and I sang
about the things that I knew of back then
Some kids who heard and saw me in them
At a time in their lives
when music was everything
it was everything

Then everything changed over the phone
California to my home
My heroes voice after the tone
ya my mind was blown
Soon every note became a song
and I was rarely alone
Most of what I long for was gone
so I shut things out

So I'm recording again
while my kid is upstairs in bed
and I'll admit now and then
that some nights when I'm ???
or maybe just troubled
that music is still everything
Well almost everything

--
Oh Memory
--

I never thought I would
forget the way you looked
All last night when I closed my eyes to
ask your help with you know who
no matter how I tried I couldn't find
the image of your face in my mind
oh memory is so unkind

I never really feel (???)
you would just dissapear
In my favourite things about me
or how I hope to one day ???
Sometimes I can really see you there
Inside of that little stare
No memory don't despair

--
Rainy Saturday
--

You know we really had a tough love baby
We really couldn't catch a break
we both were just lying there waiting
for answers that would never ever come our way

We should have had some friends come over
You know they called so many times
but we were on a long vacation
on an island so small nobody could find
that nodody could find

Don't know how we did it but we made it through the winter just in time
Don't know how we did it but we made it through the winter just in time

You should go and try that dress on baby
and we should open up that wine
I can put my wedding suit on
and lift you up and carry you outside this time
so we can start our lives
so we can start our lives

Don't know how we did it but we made it through the winter just in time
Don't know how we did it but we made it through the winter just in time

You know we really had a tough love baby
We just really couldn't catch a break
we were just lying there waiting
Like every day was a cold and rainy Saturday
A rainy Saturday
A rainy Saturday

Instructions
--

Here's how I'd like things to go down
if there's only me in the ground
Put all my ashes in can
and drive up north in the van
Roll down the windows and play The Band (??)
and take me to the place
where we spent all those days
and throw me to the wind
off of the dock where we'd swim
That's where I'd love to begin
Where I'd love to begin

In my piano bench you'll find
something for you I left behind
Then put my notebooks in a pile
Strike a match and light a fire
There's nothing left that's worth while

Then take me to the place
where we spent all those days
and throw me to the wind
off of the dock where we'd swim
That's how I'd love this to end
That's how I'd love this to end
That's how I'd love this to end
How I'd love this to end

Us Alone
--

We three were driving west
Trying to digest
yet another test
yet another thing about you wrong
And I just wasn't talking
and you, you weren't stopping
and she started crying
as soon as we stopped moving
and the tension was rising
as the traffic kept piling

And so we're just sitting there
in the sun as it glares
as everyone just stares
out their windows
thinking this ain't fair

And my mind can't stop swimming
from saving us to sinking
While everyone's been signing
how great we've both been dealing
with the cards that just weren't falling
exactly how we once saw them

And then something suddenly
made us feel like we
were rising from the debris
and it sounded just like New Orleans

A man out on delivery
of Kit Kats and Sweet Marie's
passed by us on the street
playing a trumpet while steering with his knees
and his song blew like a summer breeze
turning a funeral march to a jubilee
and as the music faded east
we felt like we were back on our feet

Arts&Crafts still hasn't delivered my CD, so I'm only working with headphones in a laptop. Take each with a grain of salt, but I believe some of the answers are:

--
BLURRY NIGHTS
...and that didn't get in the way if I recall...
...say you like being alone while looking down at your phone like it's some marquee...

--
ALMOST EVERYTHING
...about the things that I knew of back then
Some kids who heard saw me in them...

Loading up my (red Tercel??)
with my guitar and things to sell...

...Soon every note became a song
and I was rarely alone...

--
US ALONE
...A man out on delivery
of Kit Kats and Sweet Marie's
passed by us on the street
playing a trumpet while steering with his knees
and his song blew like a summer breeze
turning a funeral march to a jubilee...

Just got my CD in the mail. :) Turns out there is a lyrics sheet for everything other than the hidden track. :)
Didn't check all the lyrics, just my add-ons. Happy to report that my Hayden deciphering is still up to par ... other than misunderstanding "marquis" as "marquee" (I'll give myself a pass on that one).

Haha, I was figuring that was going to happen that it would come with a lyrics sheet, but oh well, it was fun to do. :)
